Black Women Rock 2015: .....And The Winner Is....... Ashieka Daniels

What an awesome event. A celebration of Our R.O.O.T.S (Royalty. Opulence. Origin. Triumph. Significance). It was an honor to receive the award for Artist of the Year at the Black Women Rock Award Show at Governors State University. This is the 3rd Annual event that honors black women and their achievements as advocates, entrepreneurs, legends, scholars and artist. It was a night filled with high energy, excitement and entertainment. This was a black tie affair complete with red carpet, live band and refreshments...... this was all pre award show. Hilliard President of Fashion Fair cosmetics was phenomenal. All in all it was an amazing event. I had the support of my family and friends!! I will tell anybody that I have the BEST support system in the world. Thank you Governors State University, Committee Members, Black Women Rock, and all others who helped to make the award show a hit!!! and to my family and friends I LOVE YOU!!!

I don't want to forget to mention that my family and I got the opportunity to see some talented performers. The Ayodele Dance & Drum Company exists to foster community from a feminine perspective through the study and performance of diasporic African drum and dance. In 2007, seven African dancers came together to learn the art of the drum to enhance and improve their dancing. The sisters were led by Tosha ‘Ayo’ Alston and the seed of Ayodele Drum & Dance was planted. Ayodele, a Yoruba word meaning “Joy in the home”, is now a diverse sister-circle of performing artists committed to studying and performing drum and dance as a healing element. They've grown from that circle of seven to over twenty Queens who use African drum and dance to educate and motivate young women and children.
